HolidayHero vs Akia
Akia is a US-born AI agent for hotels and vacation rentals, strong on guest messaging, phone calls and pre-arrival check-in. HolidayHero runs the whole stay across hotels, groups, parks, hostels, aparthotels and rentals, on your own domain, with European guest registration and published pricing. Here is how the two compare, row by row.

Two different bets on the stay
Akia is an AI agent for guest communication: it answers messages, picks up the phone, and pushes check-in, guidebooks and upsells out as link-delivered Mini Apps, for hotels and vacation rentals. HolidayHero is a whole-stay platform where messaging is one pillar among five, sitting beside arrival and registration, a branded guest app, upsells with supplier routing, and daily operations, across hotels, groups, holiday parks, hostels, aparthotels and rentals.
What Akia does well
The conversational layer is genuinely strong. Akia works SMS, WhatsApp, email, web chat, social and the OTA inboxes from one thread, translates automatically across 90+ languages, and publishes a 90% AI resolution figure from The Chandler Hotel. The phone agent is the part most rivals do not ship at all: it holds a real conversation, checks live PMS availability before quoting an upgrade, and takes the payment before the call ends. The supervision model is sensible too, with every capability set to allow, ask first, or deny. If your problem is "nobody is answering the guests", Akia solves it well.
Why HolidayHero
The stay is more than the thread. Akia's product surface is a conversation with little apps sent into it. Each Mini App is its own link, delivered at a moment in the journey. HolidayHero gives the guest one place that carries the whole stay and reshapes itself by reservation stage: what shows before arrival, during the stay and after checkout is different, without the guest hunting through old texts for the right link. Guests and staff can both build into an in-app itinerary, and operators create, sort and hide the sections themselves.
The guest app is yours, not the vendor's. Akia's Mini Apps are served from a shared vendor link domain. HolidayHero runs the guest app on the operator's own domain, per brand, with several distinct brands cleanly separated inside one account. If you want to go further, the guest app is available headless: HolidayHero is the engine and the guest experience lives inside your own app or site.
Every property type, not two. Akia sells to hotels and vacation rentals. If your portfolio also includes holiday parks, campings, hostels or aparthotels, that focus becomes a ceiling. HolidayHero was built for the full lodging mix from the start, on roughly 17 PMS including the systems those segments actually run.
Registration, not just check-in. Both collect ID and match a selfie to the document. In Europe that is only half the job: the file still has to reach the authorities. HolidayHero files guest registration to SES.Hospedajes in Spain, with batch submission and status tracking. Akia documents no authority filing.
Revenue past the room. Both sell early check-in, upgrades and extra nights, and both post charges to the folio. HolidayHero adds the layer above that: inquiries routed directly to the supplier who fulfils them through a supplier portal, an automatic commission split so the operator's cut and the platform fee are visible per booking, and a curated local experiences catalogue with categories, availability and per-country VAT. Akia's upsells are what the property itself sells.
Beyond the door. Akia connects to 15 or so lock brands and does door codes well, including holding a code until the agreement is signed and the balance is paid. HolidayHero treats the lock as one device among many: lighting, plugs with energy monitoring, switches and thermostats, all tied to the reservation stage.
Guest intelligence, not just an inbox metric. Akia gives you NPS and a review feed. HolidayHero adds a composite 0 to 100 engagement score across five dimensions, recalculated regularly, so you can triage which guests need attention before they become the review.
European by construction. Akia states GDPR and CCPA compliance and holds SOC 2 Type II, but publishes no EU data residency commitment. HolidayHero is a Dutch company running on EU data residency, where the operator owns the first-party guest data and can export it.
Pricing you can read before the call. Akia lists Basic, Pro and Max with no prices, every button going to Talk to Sales, and a fair amount gated above Basic: ID verification, PMS integration, Mini Apps, scheduled messaging, automations and payments sit in Pro, and voice sits in Max. HolidayHero publishes per-listing pricing, starts on a free trial you can open yourself, and takes no commission on your guests.
Capability by capability
Genuine parity first: unified inbox, WhatsApp, OTA message sync, AI answering, scheduled messages gated by conditions, digital guidebooks, ID capture with selfie matching, folio posting, PCI-compliant payments and broad PMS coverage all work well on both sides. Akia is ahead on one axis that matters to some buyers: an AI voice agent on the phone line, which HolidayHero does not offer.
The grid separates on scope and ownership. HolidayHero carries the guest app on your own domain, multiple brands, headless delivery, a staged journey with an itinerary, local events, supplier-routed inquiries with commission splits, an experiences catalogue, the engagement score and European authority filing. Akia does not publicly document any of these. On the commercial rows, HolidayHero publishes its pricing and offers a self-serve start, where Akia is quote-only and demo-gated.
Which one fits you
If you run a hotel or a set of rentals in the US, your problem is inbound volume across text and telephone, and a hosted link app is fine, Akia is a strong pick and the voice agent is a real advantage.
If you operate in Europe, run more than one property type, want the guest app on your own domain and under your own brand, need police or municipality filing, want to sell what the neighbourhood offers as well as what your own building offers, or simply want to see the price before you book a call, HolidayHero is built for that stay.
