HolidayHero vs Guestnet
Guestnet is a guest information and upselling platform for hotels, strongest in the German-speaking Alps, where one set of content is published to the guest's phone, the screens in the building, printed programmes and the hotel's website. HolidayHero covers the same guest app ground and then keeps going, into arrival, messaging and AI, supplier-side revenue and operations. The difference is scope: a content and upsell layer versus a platform that runs the whole stay.

Guestnet is a guest information and upselling platform for hotels, built so that one set of content reaches the guest's phone, the screens in the building, the printed programme and the hotel's own website. HolidayHero is a whole-stay platform, where that guest app is one pillar of five, alongside arrival, messaging and AI, revenue and operations.
What Guestnet does well
Publish the weekly programme, the spa menu and the daily menu once and have it appear in the web app, on lobby and in-room TVs, in a print-ready template and in a website widget: that is a real piece of engineering, and it is why alpine resort hotels with a full activity programme like the product. The destination data integrations keep local content current without anyone retyping it, and the integration list runs well past PMS into POS, spa, vouchers, table reservation and digital key. More than 2,500 properties across four countries is a serious install base.
Why HolidayHero
The stay does not stop at content. Guestnet's centre of gravity is information and in-house booking. HolidayHero starts before arrival and runs past checkout: online check-in with ID and passport capture, automatic guest registration filing with the authorities, smart-lock and smart-home access, a unified inbox, an AI concierge that answers and acts, upsells that post to the folio, supplier routing with commission splits, sentiment and engagement scoring, and a workflow builder. Buying that from Guestnet means buying four or five other tools around it.
Messaging and AI are a category, not a notification. Guestnet documents notifications and feedback emails. HolidayHero runs one inbox across email, WhatsApp and SMS, converts Booking.com relay mail into chat threads, syncs Airbnb and Booking.com messages, schedules templates gated by conditional rules, and puts an AI concierge on top that recommends experiences and routes inquiries to the right operator or supplier. If guest messaging is a job your front desk actually does, this is the axis that decides it.
Any property type, not just hotels. Guestnet sells to apartments, hotels and hotel chains. HolidayHero runs hotels, holiday parks, hostels, aparthotels and short-term rentals on the same platform, with multiple distinct brands from one account. If your portfolio is mixed, or you expect it to become mixed, a hotel-shaped product becomes a ceiling.
Revenue that reaches your suppliers. An upsell catalogue in the app is table stakes and both have one. HolidayHero adds the part that makes it operationally cheap: charges post to the folio, suppliers get routed their own inquiries directly with no middleman, and commission splits are calculated automatically. That is the difference between selling a massage and running a marketplace your spa partner administers themselves.
Open by default. HolidayHero is PMS-agnostic on purpose and exposes a GraphQL API plus a headless guest app, so you can run the whole guest experience inside your own app or site and add your own channels. Guestnet offers content widgets for your website and CRM, which is useful, but it is embedding content rather than owning the experience. There is no public developer API documented.
Pricing you can read without a sales call. HolidayHero publishes its prices and you can start on your own. Guestnet's plan tiers (Essential, Advanced, Pro) appear in its documentation, with individual modules gated to the higher ones, and one bundle carries a listed price in the Apaleo marketplace, but there is no public price list on the site and the path in is a demo request. If you want to size the cost before you talk to anyone, that matters.
European by construction. HolidayHero is GDPR-compliant with EU data residency, and the first-party guest data belongs to the operator, exportable at any time. Guestnet is EU-based and states GDPR compliance in its documentation. Guest data export and ownership are not publicly documented.
Capability by capability
Both platforms do the guest-app fundamentals well and the table shows it: digital guidebooks, custom branding, configurable app sections, an upsell catalogue, activities and experiences, multi-property management and post-stay feedback. Guestnet's local and venue events, fed by destination data partners, are genuinely strong, and its integration breadth into POS, spa and vouchers matches HolidayHero's.
The table separates on arrival (ID capture, authority filing, smart-lock access), on messaging and AI (unified inbox, WhatsApp, OTA and PMS sync, autonomous AI), on supplier-side revenue (folio posting, splits, direct inquiries), on operational intelligence (sentiment, engagement score, workflows), and on platform openness (API, headless, custom domain). Guestnet is marked "not publicly documented" on those rows, which reflects what its own site and help centre say today, not a judgement about what it could build.
One honest note on our own side: HolidayHero's automatic guest registration filing is live for Spain via SES.Hospedajes, with Italy and Dubai on the roadmap. If your compliance need is Italian today, ask us about timing rather than assuming.
Which one fits you
If you run an alpine or resort hotel in the DACH region with a full weekly activity programme, in-room and lobby screens, printed morning post, and your main job is publishing that content everywhere without retyping it, Guestnet is a fine pick and does that job with real craft.
If you need the stay run rather than the content published, and especially if you want check-in, compliance filing, door access, guest messaging with AI, folio-posted upsells, supplier commission splits and operational scoring in one system, on any PMS, across more than one property type, with published pricing, HolidayHero is the platform built for that.
