HolidayHero vs HappyStay AI
HappyStay AI is an AI front desk agent that answers guests, tenants and contractors on WhatsApp, SMS and email, and dispatches maintenance jobs to vendors. HolidayHero covers the same messaging ground, then keeps going: online check-in, ID capture, a branded guest app, upsells that post to the folio and a smart device layer. One automates the conversation. The other runs the stay.

HappyStay AI is an AI front desk agent: it answers guests, tenants and contractors on WhatsApp, SMS and email, and routes maintenance jobs to the right vendor. HolidayHero is a whole-stay platform, where that kind of AI messaging is one pillar of five, sitting alongside arrival and check-in, a branded guest app, upsells and revenue, and day-to-day operations.
What HappyStay AI does well
Sally, their agent, is a serious piece of messaging automation. It covers 40+ languages with auto-detection, runs on a single number your guests can save, lets you tune the confidence threshold at which it acts alone, and hands any conversation to a human in one tap. Their contractor dispatch is the part most guest-messaging tools skip entirely: jobs auto-route to a vendor by skill, distance and SLA, with photos and access codes attached. They also cover long-term tenants and lease law, which is unusual in this category. If your problem is that nobody answers at 2am, they solve that problem.
Why operators choose HolidayHero
The guest actually sees something. HappyStay is a back-office agent. The guest experiences it as a phone number. HolidayHero gives the guest a branded app: your colours, your logo, your own domain, sections you create and reorder yourself, and content that changes with the moment in the stay. Before arrival it shows check-in and directions. During the stay it shows amenities, the guidebook, local events and things to book. After checkout it asks for the review. If you would rather run that experience inside your own app or website, the Headless Guest App lets HolidayHero be the engine while you keep the front end. There is nothing equivalent in HappyStay's public material.
Arrival is a workflow, not a conversation. HolidayHero runs online check-in with configurable fields per brand, captures and verifies ID or passport documents (the document type adapts to the listing's country), and files guest registrations automatically with SES.Hospedajes for Spanish properties, with batch submission, status tracking and error alerts. HappyStay's compliance claim is that regulations are "baked into every reply", which is policy-aware answering rather than filing. Their check-in coverage is a conversation about check-in.
Smart home, not just codes in a chat. HappyStay passes access codes to contractors and guests inside messages. HolidayHero runs a full smart device layer: locks (Goki, Bold), lighting, plugs with energy monitoring, thermostats and HVAC, motion, contact, temperature, humidity, air quality and leak sensors, window coverings, smoke and CO alarms, EV charging and solar. Visibility is gated per reservation stage, so the guest gets the door code when they should and not before.
Revenue, with the money actually moving. HappyStay's analytics mention "revenue lifted", but there is no catalogue, no checkout and no folio posting in their public material. HolidayHero sells: an upsell and experience catalogue in the guest app with per unit or per person pricing, VAT by country, images, rich text, custom fields and per-language translation. Charges post to the folio through supported PMS. Suppliers get their own portal, receive guest inquiries directly with no operator relaying messages in the middle, and the commission split between operator, supplier and platform is calculated automatically.
You can see the price and start today. HolidayHero publishes its pricing from €6.50 per unit per month with a self-serve ROI calculator, a trial you can start yourself, and a one-time onboarding fee between €100 and €250. HappyStay publishes no pricing at all: the only route in is a 20 minute demo call, and their own FAQ puts onboarding at three to four weeks.
EU-native on data. HolidayHero is GDPR compliant with EU data residency, PCI compliant payment handling, and exports for reservations and check-ins so the operator can take their first-party guest data with them. HappyStay's security section is strong on encryption, role-based access and not training models on your data, but it names no hosting region and makes no residency claim, and the company is registered in the Dubai International Financial Centre. Their Privacy Policy and Terms links are currently placeholders.
Capability by capability
Messaging is where the two genuinely meet. Both run a unified inbox, both do WhatsApp well, both do autonomous AI answering with human escalation, both detect sentiment, both time the review request. HappyStay's contractor auto-dispatch is a real advantage over a generic supplier module, and their long-term rental coverage has no HolidayHero equivalent.
Past the inbox, the grid separates. HolidayHero adds Booking.com and Airbnb message sync, PMS message threads in the same inbox, scheduled templates gated by conditional rules, a workflow builder, an engagement score across five dimensions, in-stay surveys, multi-brand support and an integration API. HappyStay documents ten PMS connections including Oracle OPERA, Apaleo and SiteMinder, which is a strong hotel list. HolidayHero documents around seventeen PMS integrations plus smart devices, guest registration and translation, and runs beside whatever PMS you already have rather than replacing it.
Which one fits you
If your portfolio is mostly long-term rentals, or if the single thing you want to fix is inbound message volume and vendor dispatch, HappyStay AI is a reasonable pick and you should look at it seriously.
For anyone else, the ceiling shows up fast. The moment you want the guest to check in online, verify a passport, open a door, book a late checkout that lands on the folio, read the house manual in their own language, or see anything with your brand on it, you need a platform rather than an agent. That is what HolidayHero is built to be, and it runs beside your existing PMS at a price you can read on the website before you talk to anyone.
