HolidayHero vs UpsellGuru
UpsellGuru is a specialist hotel upselling company, covering pre-arrival bidding, front-desk upselling and in-stay offers, with agent training to match. HolidayHero runs the whole stay, with upselling as one pillar beside arrival, the guest app, messaging and operations. Here is how the two compare, row by row.

If you are weighing UpsellGuru against HolidayHero, the choice is between a specialist that does upselling very well and a platform that runs the whole stay, upselling included. Here is the honest version.
Credit where it's due
UpsellGuru has been doing this a long time and does it well. The bid-for-your-upgrade mechanic is genuinely clever, dynamic pricing plugs into revenue management systems so upgrade prices move with demand, and a long list of PMS connections (Opera, Opera Cloud, Mews, Infor, Protel, SIHOT, Guestline and more) means a confirmed upsell posts back to the bill without anyone retyping it. The front-desk program is more than software: incentive tracking, automatic auditing against the PMS, and on-site agent training. They also publish their prices, and they charge subscription only, so no share of your upsell revenue goes to them. If upselling is the one box you need filled, that is a strong package.
Why HolidayHero
The difference is how much of the stay each platform carries. UpsellGuru is built for one job across three moments: sell the upgrade before arrival, at the desk, and during the stay. HolidayHero treats those three moments as one pillar of five. Arrival and registration, the guest app, messaging, revenue and operations sit on the same platform, for hotels, hotel groups, holiday parks, hostels, aparthotels and rentals alike. If your shortlist also has a check-in tool, a guest-app tool and a messaging tool on it, you are comparing one line item against four.
Arrival is a good example. UpsellGuru's online check-in collects the fields you configure and captures a signed set of terms. HolidayHero's does that too, then captures the passport or ID document with the right fields for the listing's country, files the guest registration with the authorities where that is live (Spain's SES.Hospedajes today, Italy and Dubai in progress), and releases the door code through the lock. The device layer does not stop at locks either. Lighting, climate, energy, sensors and Matter devices are all part of it, and what a guest can see or control is gated by where they are in the stay.
The guest app runs deeper than a directory. It is served on your own domain, per brand, and adapts stage by stage from booking to checkout. Guests and operators build a shared itinerary inside it. Operators create, reorder and hide their own sections, push local events and experiences, attach amenity instructions and documents, and have the whole lot auto-translated into the guest's language.
Messaging is the widest gap. UpsellGuru sends: branded emails, SMS and WhatsApp offers, campaigns on a schedule. HolidayHero also listens. One inbox carries email, two-way WhatsApp and SMS, Booking.com relay emails arrive as chat threads, PMS message threads land in the same place, and an AI concierge answers and actions guest requests inside it, with escalation to a human when it should.
On revenue the two overlap most, and both post charges to the folio. HolidayHero adds the supply side: a guest request routes straight to the supplier who fulfils it, through their own portal, with the commission split three ways automatically, plus a curated local experiences catalogue rather than only your own services. Operations adds a layer no upsell tool carries: tasks with an audit trail, guest sentiment detection, and a composite 0–100 engagement score across five dimensions, so you know which guests need attention before they check out. There are also two ways to build on it, a Headless Guest App if you would rather run the guest experience inside your own app or site, and an integration API for system-to-system work.
Commercially, both publish prices, which is rarer in this category than it should be. The difference is what happens next: HolidayHero lets you start yourself on a trial from €6.50 per unit per month, where every UpsellGuru path runs through a sales call. HolidayHero is also EU-native, built in Amsterdam, with EU data residency and a guest-data export that is yours to take.
Feature by feature
Give UpsellGuru its due. On upselling itself the two are close, and on a couple of axes UpsellGuru is ahead: its PMS list is longer and skews to the large hotel systems, and it charges nothing on upsell revenue where HolidayHero takes a 3% success fee. Bid-based upgrades with demand-linked pricing, and the front-desk incentive and auditing program around them, are a real specialism. Where HolidayHero pulls ahead is everything around the sale: ID capture and authority filing, smart locks and the wider smart home, a two-way inbox with an AI concierge, OTA and PMS thread sync, an itinerary and custom sections on your own domain, auto-translation, supplier routing with automatic splits, sentiment and engagement scoring, a headless guest app, an integration API, and a start you can make yourself.
Which fits you
If upselling is genuinely the only thing you are buying, and your properties run on Opera or a similar large hotel system, UpsellGuru is a strong specialist, and the front-desk program in particular is hard to match with software alone. If you want the upsell to sit inside the rest of the stay, with check-in and registration, a branded guest app on your own domain, a real two-way inbox with AI, smart devices, your own suppliers and guest intelligence on one platform and one bill, that is what HolidayHero is built for.
